  basic overlook

  Greetings-
  Was trying to do a quick & simple fix in AE6.5. Was given a minute long QT MPEG video w. audio and needed to put a disclaimer line of text over the duration at the bottom.

  Probs:
  – the file would not export the audio, despite having given me options to do so in the output module.

  – could only export MPEG-4 despite the source movie being MPEG and it would not compress down to the source-file’s 9Mg size at a reasonable quality

  I’m not all that familiar w. MPEG as I’m on the mac and I’m sure I am missing something very basic

  any help = good help

  i have to say that i’ve never thought ae made good mpegs, they’re fat and ugly. you’re better off with sorenson or another third party compression software. just render to a lossless or uncompressed codec, then compress.

  the audio issue may be an audio rate problem, try a few different rates and see if that helps.

  Now that shouldn’t be any kind of an excuse =) QuickTime is an Apple product and has championed various MPEG formats over the years!

  That said I think you should render the file as lossless, making sure that your audio bit and sample rate are the same as your source file (also make sure you can hear audio when you RAM preview or audio preview in AE).

  As a matter of fact you might want to get more information about the source file before you decide how to proceed. You can do this in QuickTime player under Window->Show Movie Info. It will tell you the video & audio codec used as well as sampling/bit rates.

  Also, if you don’t have another application for compressing video (like Compressor) you should have QuickTime Pro (which I highly recommend) which will allow you to export footage to a variety of codecs. It doesn’t give you the same degree of control as a dedicated professional compression application but it will work in a tight squeeze (no pun intended… well maybe a little bit).
