Keyframing Text to Fly Into the Frame
I am having difficulty doing this effect: With a widescreen project, I would like to create a 15 second sequence in which my text (two words) flies into the screen from the foreground and continues to the vanishing point where it gets too small to read and finally disapears—remember the Superman (1978) opening titles sequence? is
there a link someone can point me to keyframe this? Even after changing my font size to its maximum size, I cannot get the lettering big enough (in the foreground) so that it’s not viewable. I tried using the text handles but that really distorts the text and produces too much graininess. I must be doing something wrong.
This will be exported into Vegas to use over a video sequence created there. -

try making your text a 3d layer, then animate the z postion.
if you have several lines of text you could space them out in z space then pull a 3d camera backwards through your 3d text layers.
you may still need to animate the opacity to get the text completely off, or possibly adding a light, so the text will disapear into the background as it moves further from the light.

Hey thanks! That’s actually a big help. One more thing before I do this: When I select the text tool and type my text, I hit the space bar after typing the first word and create a wanted character space. The text cursor moves a space. But when I type the next letter, the letter typed doesn’t skip the desired space? In essence, I’m unable to type two separate words right now. What am I doing wrong?
Secondly, when I do type my text, how do I center the two words? I’m clicking the paragraph tab, then clicking center, but to my eyes it doesn’t look like it’s in the center of my widescreen window.

have you tried other fonts?
i haven’t seen the space not show up as it should, and i can’t think of a setting that would effect just the spaceing between words… kerning would effect the space between the letters too. i would try to reset the text pallettes… select you text layer. then, in both the character and paragraph pallettes, click on the little triangle in the upper right of the pallettes it will bring up a menu. at the bottom should be reset pallette. select that and see if that fixes the problem.
if that doesn’t help, as a work around, you might try typing the words in another application and cut and paste into ae. if you have access to illustrator or photoshop you could type your words in there and then import in to ae. it seems like an elaborate work around, but it should work if you just need to get this done.
as far as centering… the center button should center the text, but it will only center on the insertion point (where you first click the text tool in the comp). if you want to check your layer for center within the comp, select your text layer in the timeline and hit ‘p’ for position. now check the numbers… the first value should be half of your comp width, so if you’re working 720×480, horizontal center would be 360.
