  • when to use motion blur?

I’m a little confused on when I should use motion blur. I’ve got a video clip that I’ve slowed down by time stretch (200%). In this clip a TV set is on screen. It’s a dolly shot so the TV moves across the frame from one side to another. I’ve Composited onto this clip another video clip that will “play” in the TV. I’ve set up tracking so my TV clip moves with the TV.

    1. should I put on motion blur for the main layer (because it’s slo mo)?
    2. should I put on motion blur for the composited TV scene because it’s moving and the moving should appear natural?
    3. should I use the filter “CC Force Motion Blur” or is just selecting the white ball in the layer switch enough?

    1. No, won’t do anything
    2. Yes.
    3. You could use CC, but your video clip probably already has motion blur naturally occuring.

    Hope this helps

Also, if you’re time stretching your layer you probably want to have some kind of frame blending enabled for the footage (Frame Mix or Pixel Motion). Pixel Motion can give you better results, but it sometimes makes things look funky, especially in fast motion clips, and it takes a while to render.
