I hope I’m on the right forum for this. I recently split some large AVI files using something called “AVI MPEG RM WMV Splitter 4.28” from Boilsoft. I’m trying to figure out if the resulting files were recompressed. Please keep in mind, I’m relatively new to video (paid my dues on film).

The splitter’s documents say “no quality loss”, but I’d like more reassurance. I posted here because I figure AE would be a good place to do a comparison.

I did find some subtle variations between the original capture and the new “split file” at the pixel level. What I can’t tell is if these variations are the innevitable result of splitting, or can they be avoided altogether, perhaps by using different software.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, however murky my question is.

    Warm regards,
    SGM
