Will My NVIDIA Graphics Card Work?
Posted by Mike Petty on June 21, 2011 at 10:02 pmI have an early 2009 Mac Pro with an NVIDIA GeForce GT120 stock card.
Will FCPX work with that rascal? Hard to find a simple answer in all of the chaos today.

June 21, 2011 at 10:07 pmHere’s how ya find out. Click BUY APP. I just did and it instantly said “we couldn’t complete your purchase – your computers video card does not meet the minimum requirements.”
I’m running an original 2ghz mac pro from Jan ’07. I’ll upgrade as soon as they release newer Mac Pros.
Just saved myself $299! Sweet. Temptation avoided. Thank you apple.

June 21, 2011 at 11:31 pmThanks for the info…now I know why I could not buy FCPX on my day to day admin iMac (though it hit my card on file in the app store a couple of times trying to buy then issuing a credit…weird).

July 2, 2011 at 5:49 pmMy video card is NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and dual-link DVI. According to Apple it is OpenCL compatible but does not meet the VRAM system requirement for Final Cut Pro X, but my Macbook Pro says it has a VRAM (Total):256 MB which is what is required for FCP X. Now I’m confused, so I hit buy app and it’s downloading, hope it works. Wish me luck.

October 15, 2011 at 5:21 pmI also have the geoforce 8600M GT card but with 512Mb. in an early 2008 MBP 17″ (hi-res screen)
( I believe 128K was not supported nut 512 was)The app store uploaded it to me without any problems.
On V 10.0 I could use fcX, it was very slow with many beach balls but it would work.
Since 10.01 came out I cannot import any H624 files, fcp hangs at validating files for import every time.
Now it says that the 8600GT is NOT supported full stop!
Is this the problem?
