Performance Issues
Sure, FCP X is a long way from complete for pro users. In fact, it’s unusable for broadcast users. There. I said it. Not going to defend it, and not going to complain I’m not disappointed. I still have some faith in Apple getting it right eventually, but it may come too late.
However- I could forgive FCPX if it gives me that amazing performance everyone promised. I’ve just hooked it up to my MBP (Core2Duo 2.66 with 4Gb RAM) and the performance blows – basic video is fine, but any effect at all and it’s dropping frames like a bitch. Background rendering is very slow – and my laptop was running like crazy.
As a tech demo (and that’s all FCPX is at the moment) it’s not impressing me so far (I’ll stick it on a quad core iMac tomorrow). Anyone had a good experience? I’d stick it on one of my Mac Pros but 1) I use them to make money and 2) the GPUs in them are not supported by X.
Hmmm.
