Hello, I am having a ittle bit of trouble importing footage into AE.
I have a snoy handycam dvdr505 and I can upload the footage onto my computer, and it looks very clear. comparing it to watching a dvd on my computer the two are very similar. When I drag and drop the video over to the project window in AE and then play it in AE the quality looks much worse. I have tried interpreting the footage a few different ways and I can’t seem to get it to come out right. I have imported motion jpeg files into AE before from my canon digital camera, and they work fine. there is no change in quality. the format of video from my sony handycam is mpg if that helps.
Thanks in advance for any help.

MPEG is not a good format for working with — it is for playing back.

Before trying to work with MPEG footage in a comp, try converting it first to a .MOV or a .AVI file. There are a number of utilities available on the web to do this, just do a search for “MPEG TO AVI” or something similar.
