  motion tracking DV footage in After Effects

  I want to use After Effects to eliminate camera shake from a sequence I am editing in FCP. My efforts at doing this have resulted in a noticeable lessening of resolution and image quality. Can it be done without losing resolution, and if so, how?

  Hi,

  You will always loose a bit of resolution.

  the reason? Because when you stabilize footage you move it around, by doing that you “expose” the edge of the footage. the only way to hide that, is to scale up your footage.

  Now the visible image quality degration will depend on how much stabilizing is happening, since that will dictate how much you need to scale your footage up.

  I’m producing for TV, not for computer viewing, so the edges moving into the screen will be hidden in the 10% of unseen picture area around the sides that you never see on a TV. That’s why I’m hopeful that zero degradation can be achieved.
