  Picture profiles to match Canon 60D to XDCAM

  I shoot with both XDCAM (Sony EX1R) and a Canon 60D, and am curious as to what Canon picture profile you think would match best, after grading.

  I would also like to learn more about a good basic procedure for post-production grading when using profiles from Technicolor or Marvels – something to get “into the ballpark” quickly. If you know of some good tutorials, I would most appreciate your sharing them. I’ve been using FCP’s 3-way Color Corrector, but I know there must be a more complete approach. I can use FCP, Premiere, or After Effects.

  I’m also curious as to whether some of you have tried the “Cinema” profile from “CinePlus.”

  The quickest way for a fast grade when using the Technicolor Cinestyle might be to use the provided LUT. You can use the free LUT Buddy plugin from Red Giant.
  Works with FCP, Premiere, Motion and AE

  You also might want to check out Red Giant’s Colorista (there’s also a free version on the RG website) or Looks (also a free version called Quick Looks Free).

  There are some tutorials how to use these plugins on the RG site.

  I personally like to use Color Finesse in AE for “correcting”. Great tool because of the scopes. And then using Looks for grading.

  Andrew Devis has quite a couple of tutorials here on the COW concerning colour correction both in AE and Premiere. I learned a lot by watching them. Just do a quick search in the tutorials section with the keywords “color correction”. Fantastic advice given there

  Thank you Peter. Excellent advice. I like the idea of just using a standard “starting point” for grading.

  I wonder whether there is a LUT Buddy setting for other profiles besides the Technicolor.

  Glad I helped a bit!

  Haven’t found LUTs for other profiles, but you can easily create them by yourself.
  Aharon Rabinowitz has this great tutorial on the RG site in which he explains how to create LUTs with the help of LUT Buddy.
