  5D to XDCAM Quicktime?

  Hello,

  I shoot with the ex1 as my primary camera, and on occasion will use a 5D as a second camera. I edit the ex1’s xdcam mp4s natively using a FCP plugin, and in the past, I’ve just converted the 5D files to pro res. However, it recently occurred to me to convert the 5D footage to XDCAM quicktimes using MPEG Streamclip, not simply because the files are much smaller, but because it will make mixing the footage in the same timeline easier on FCP.

  Am I mistaken about any of this? Thanks!

  If it works for you, go ahead!

  I just want to throw in, if you transcode to XDCAM (which is MPEG2, isn’t ist?) you’re recompressing material that was heavily compressed in the first place.
  So, you’re losing valuable picture information which can lead to visible artifacts when colour-correcting or during final compression.

  Transcoding to ProRes will preserve the original quality.
