I’ve searched for a comprehensive guide on this all over the internet and I don’t see anything except case-by-case answers.

I am getting a Canon 60D with the following lenses:
    -EF-S 18-135mm Lens
-Canon Normal EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Autofocus Lens
-Tokina 11-16/2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX Lens for Canon EOS Digital

I’m new to this but understand that having lens filters for ALL lenses is important for both saturation and lens protection.

What I don’t understand is what size filters do I need to buy? I keep seeing 58mm and 77mm ND/UV filters. How do I know what fits my lenses? What is the correlation between those sizes and my lenses? It seems like there would be a guide somewhere, but I’m not seeing it.

Also, is there a difference between ND and UV filters? Which is more important if I can only afford one or the other?

Thanks so much for any help to this newb.

    Cheers,
    Gerry
