would like to create a light saber on top of a bat. Was thinking to mask out the bat and drop a red star glow on it. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Create a mask around the bat… then dublicate the layer… invert the mask on the new layer lable one bat and one background.. now ad a solid red or what ever color behind both thises layers now adjust mask size and feathering until you see the red through the crack between the two layers … ad a blur effect to the solid to sofen it til you like how it looks…

If you’re really serious about the effect, Ryan Weber has done an incredible job with the effect(I forget if he’s credited as the creator or not), compiling it also into some easy to follow tutorials.

check it out. I garentee you won’t want to do a lightsaber any other way once you see the results.
    peace,
    Michael
