yesterday i did a RAM preview on a composition and i got the following error:

“After Effects error: opening file “%s”. sound channel – can’t open QuickTime handler (-2004)”

however, when i “Make Movie” the audio plays…

i had completed this project on Monday without this error and then all of a sudden yesterday, this has become a problem. any idea how i can fix this?

    btw, i’m running Mac OS X 10.4.6.

I had this problem on some newer G5’s in our office. Here’s how to fix:

    1. Go to Applications/Utilties and open Audio Midi Setup.
    2. Under the Audio Output section change the format to 44100.

These new G5’s (and the MacTels also, I think) are shipping with newer sound cards that support audio rates above what AE can support. Hence, the error.
