  • realtime audio playback in AE 6.5?

how can i get AE 6.5 to playback the audio in a video compisition in realtime, like premiere pro does? can I scrub audio and video in a comp at the same time?

The only way i’ve found to hear the audio with video is by doinig a ram preview, waiting for it to render frames and prosses audio, then I have to replay it to her the audio. this is definetly not time efficient, since i have to do this many many times.
Also it seems to take a relatively long time to prosses the audio for playback even if i don’t have effects on it or multiple layers of audio, and it does this every time i want to preview even though the audio is the same, should i “save ram preview” of just the audio so it wont have to prosses the audio every time, or would that not work.

I have a descent computer, and a new laptop so i dont think thats the problem. both are over 2ghz and 1gig ram, 64bit AMD, windows xp pro. They work great at playing back audio/video in realtime in premiere pro.

    thanks for the advice

You can get audio when you scrub by holding down the CTRL key. But regular playback of audio still requires that you RAM preview or Audio preview.

Remember that AE and Premiere Pro play back video and audio very differently. AE is not a real time program, Premiere is. Don’t expect your workflow to be the same in both applications. Use the tools for their strengths (e.g., AE isn’t a great program for editing audio).
