soooo many plug-ins! what are the must haves for someone starting from scratch?
trapcode? others? what do you folks use the most? -

Having just gotten into motion graphics within the last year, I have been trying to find that out myself; the answer seems to be, “it depends.” But at the risk of sounding like I should know, it seems Zaxworks Invigorator and anything from Trapcode.
This question seems to appear frequently on the Creative Cow forum, so maybe this link will help. Atleast you will see there is a broad opinion on your question, but Zaxworks and Trapcode is mentioned often:

It depends on the project, but there are some fundamental ones.
Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator (or ProAnimator) for those who must create outstanding 3D animations fast within the AE enviroment.
Check out Digital Anarchy, Panopticum and Trapcode just to name a few (and their Forums on the COW).
Hopefully this is enough to start planning to spend your money… 🙂HTH
