I have AE 6.5 and have searched the online help and the menu bar for some way to add it to my timeline. Alas I think someone has stole my pick whip and I have no way to Parent anything. Can anyone help me to figure this out?

Weird. By any chance you don’t have your timeline window sitting on a second monitor, do you? In some cases I’ve seen UI elements disappear only when on the second monitor of a dual-monitor system. Moving the window back to the primary monitor usually solves the problem.

Otherwise, have you tried trashing the AE prefs and/or reinstalling?

You can always pick the parent layer from the drop-down menu.

Do you still have the parent column or is gone entirely? If it’s gone, then you just need to turn it back on by right-clicking in the top row (above the layer names, for example), and choosing the “Columns >” menu, and then turning the “Parent” column back on.

If the parent column is there, but the pickwhip is not, then you might have bigger problems. Can you post a screenshot of your workspace? For hosting, upload it to http://www.imageshack.us or something similar.
