You could try a displacement map, that would give you the wrinkled look. You could try this:
Create a set of comps, all of which take their texture from part another comp which has your original image in. That way, once everything is working, you just swap the image and repeat the effect.
Now build up a comp full of the texture comps as 3D layers, which are all parented to each others and can fold in on themselves. Sort of like a basic 3D crumple. This bit is the hard part.
Bring that one into yet another composition (I’ll call it Final) and create a new composition with a solid with fractal noise applied. Have that solid’s opacity drop to zero towards the end. This is the crumple texture so it will disappear as the paper unfolds. Being this texture comp into the Final composition and apply displacement map to the 3D folding composition.
That’s the basic way of doing it. Good luck with that. You could also try Invigorator classic, although i’ve not done anythign like that myself and may be sending you down the wrong path.
