  • RAM limit?

Posted by Dean Modino on December 18, 2005 at 8:57 pm

    I Have a MAC G5 using OS 10.4.
I just bought 2GB of RAM now I have 4.5GB
although the RAM is available in other apps,
AE says that only 2GB are available.
Is there a limit to the amount of RAMAE can use?
    thanks, Dean

It’s not a limit of AE, but a limit of the OS. OS X is limited to allocating 2 GB of RAM to any single application (Windows also, though there’s a hack you can use to get up to 3 GB). My understanding is that this doesn’t prevent the RAM from trying to address past that 2 GB, it’s just a matter of how much the OS reserves for the application.
