Hi, I’m working on a video right now and I’m wondering if it’s possible with after effects 6.5 to do have a video and using tracking, track the video make the person all black whilst they move, then make the background a green colour.
Thanks a lot in advance any help would be apreciated

Hard to say without seeing your footage, but I’m guessing you haven’t shot greenscreen.. :o)

I’m not sure that tracking is going to help you very much – is it a long clip? Perhaps you could consider rotoscoping the subject?

Try working with the median and threshold filters to pull mattes of the subject before going to the effort of roto work.

If you can try and re-shoot greenscreen.

makes it a whole lot easier.

What type of background is in the video?

If you have many lines and shapes (lots of contrast), it could be very time consuming and difficult to get a clean matte!

I actually was shooting a parody of the Apple “switch” ads and inadvertantly was able (pretty easily) to get the ipod video also. I shot in a racquetball court (white background, ambient light). Then pull up the contrast/brigthness a bit and you’ll have a solid white background behind your subject. Play around with a threshold filter, and your sujbect should turn all black. Then just add a green solid and set the blend mode to multiply. Bingo.

    Good luck,
    Ryan
