  Slow Motion w/ 5d mk 3 _ Wedding

  Hey everyone,
  I’m shooting a wedding engagement video soon and I wasn’t sure how I should proceed with slow motion. I have a 5d mk 3.

  I was thinking I would shoot 1080p @ 24fps and @30fps + twixtor for moments I wanted to slow down a bit.

  I don’t plan on over using the slow-mo.

  OR

  I was thinking I could shoot at 720p @ 60fps. I would then shoot other shots at 1080 24fps, but on a 720p timeline.

  My question is should I just do 1080p or should I shoot for 720p in mind and if I put 1080p footage wouldn’t I have to resize it down and it would ultimately give me a better looking 720p?

  If the majority of your footage is going to be 1080p, I would stick with a 1080p timeline and scale up the 720p footage.

  You will get much better results shooting 720/60p and conforming that to slo-mo than you ever will using Twixtor to slow down the 24p footage.

  That was my plan, but do you think 1080p 30fps conformed to a 24fps with twixtor might be able to pull it off?

  I’m just worried the 720p footage will degrade if I upscale it.
  Unless you think I can get away with it.

  You could run some tests to see which meets your standards, but Twixtor will be attempting to interpolate and create frames in order to smoothly slow your footage down. Nothing will come out as clear as literally overcranking your camera. I would go with Matt’s approach – shoot 720p60 for all slow mo material, upscaling that to 1080p before you edit.

  In my experience, 720p scales very well up to 1080. I think the end user will have a difficult time telling the difference. Especially since the slow-mo will look so much cleaner than if you use Twixtor.

  I agree with Ryan,

  Nothing like the real thing. I’ve even had great success upscaling SD to HD so 720 to 1080 isn’t that bad and much less artifacting and much sharper than interpolating with twister.
