DSLR Video – Timestamp AND OR Visual Embedding of Metadata
For work I need to be able to have the date and time stamped onto (embedded into) the video file. From what I’ve seen and worked with, no DSLR’s even have timecodes for video files.
Is there a way to extract that information from the metadata and burn it into the source video so that it has the date/time displayed during playback?

Yes Final Cut Pro 6 or 7 can let you burn in a timecode window based upon your timeline – if you need the time to start with a specific time of day there probably is a way to do that too

Steve is correct and other NLEs (Premiere Pro) usually have an option for time-code in the render.
So far, no one has figured out how to attach TC to HD enabled DSLR footage.

Although it is a DSLM, and not technically a DSLR, with the $998 Panasonic GH3, you have the option of embedding SMPTE compliant time-code.
The $12,000 Canon 1D C, $6800 1D X, $3500 5D Mark III, $1895 6D and $1200 70D also have the capability to generate a time code stamped output.

You can use this to at least embed the timecode into the file to ensure it remains persistent and consistent.
