Advice needed on what to study
Hi All
I am hoping to get some advice from established pros in this field shooting with DSLR,s. I am currently employed as an electronic electrician but will soon be retired and want to do Web Based media delivery in my retirement and also like everyone I want to improve on what I can do now.
I started to self teach myself video when HD first came out. I’m a backcountry snowboarder and I feel in love with short videos others would post up as “ski porn”.
I quickly knew I needed to know this skill. At the same time I viewed my fist aerial video shot from a large RC helicopter. Yep, I also had to know how to get this angle .
So, over the last seven years I have learned to build, and fly both RC helis and multirotors for film. I do know of the current restrictions on commercial use here in the US so while Im waiting for the FAA I want to get the other end of the game up to par. I do know that gear doesn’t make you a pro, and just like the flying side you have to pay your dues in the video game too.
My current set uo ( due to budget ) is a T3i with the stock 18-55mm lens and a GoPro black. I would love to get a 5D but that will have to wait. I do think I really need to invest in a better video lens.
I have FCP 7 with the full suite on a quadcore Mac desktop and also Adobe CS5. I know how to convert from H2.64 into Prores and back out , know about filters, motion, opacity etc But…..My work is lackingSo,
Can someone recommend websites, blogs, books etc that is a solid base to start for someone who wants to get really good . Im also planning on enrolling in my local Community College ( San Diego)
I am willing to work for free at one of our larger production companies here too, but I haven’t knocked on that door yetthanks for reading, and I hope not to ask too many pre-asked questions
