The standard answer to all such rig pricing question is that:

    1) It is a limited market (they aren’t going to sell anything close to ipod numbers)

    2) Quality components (in some cases)

    3) R&D costs (in some cases)

    4) Because they can (in all cases)

    🙂

If you do a bit of searching on *bay, you’ll find a lot of top handles, which, depending on your configuration, can be quite affordable. I’ve got most of the Fotga DP500 system, and I found it to be quite well built, and very affordable. They sell a set of handles which can be configured into your system for under 50 bucks, with a couple of added angle fixtures.

Cold shoe handles aren’t too bad (unless you buy Zacuto).

Here are Shape Hot Shoe Handles in various colors for about $70 from Adorama.

Or, if you need a top handle for your cage, the Alzo Transformer is only $37.

    Hope that’s helpful,

There’s one more company to throw into the mix – although they’re in China, and the shipping isn’t cheap, the quality of the products they sell is outstanding:

The owner is very nice, and he stands behind his products.
