  Matte problem

  Dear friends
  I am trying to add threshold filter on layer 2 which is a video footage. Layer 1 just above it has some ramp or any other animated effects and I want to make layer 1 as matte but unable to see the results. I want to see the contents of layer one using layer 2 as my matte or kind of mask with different extreme white and black values.

  How to do that?

  Are you saying you want layer two to be the matte and be able to see layer one? If that’s what you’re trying to do, you have to have whichever layer you want to actually see below the other layer. Whichever layer is on top is the matte. Sorry, I’m not quite sure if that’s what you’re asking though.

  Don’t understand your question as it seems you want both layers to mask each other.

  But in general terms. If you have regular video and you want a greyscale image to be it’s matte, put the greyscale image one layer above the regular video. On the video layer, set it’s track matte to luma. Now it will use the lumanance values from the layer above it as it’s own alpha layer.

  If you have any unexpected results, you may need to pre compose the top (greyscale) layer so the effects rasterize before they are considered in the equation.
