Canon 5D Mark II capable on my Imac
I am looking at buying the Canon 5D mark II for that better DSLR footage, but a bit worried that my Imac could not handle the footage from the Canon 5D for smooth playback and of course editing using adobe premiere pro. So far my Nikon D7000 is running great on my Imac, but will see how the canon does.
Imac specs
Intel Core I3
4GB of RAM
3.6GHz
150GB of free space.
So not the most powerful Imac on the market but will have to do. Looking at upgrading the Imac is probably not an option, looking at the price of the Canon 5D. So hopefully I don’t run into trouble.Thank you.

The i3 chip is a DUAL core, correct?
If so, I wouldn’t worry about it…rendering will be a bit slow but my Macbook Pro Dual Core 2.33GHZ with 4GB ram is not that different from your iMac and I live with the speed. Waiting for things to render isn’t fun and has its obvious drawbacks in a business setting but if you are working on shorter projects it should be quite doable. I wouldn’t be afraid to give it a try if I were you.

Thanks Steve for the help, I think it’s just Intel core I3 not Dual, could this be an issue? example editing with APP, and playback with QT

I used to have a similar iMac and editing 1080p 5D footage was painful. Just add more RAM, and you will really see the difference. Ram is not that expensive, if you are willing o spend 2k on a cam better make sure that you can handle that footage later.

It also depends on the type of videos you’ll produce. Before buying just try to get some footage from somebody else and try it out in your iMac.
And another tip: Think about the glass you are buying too, it will make a big difference in the quality of your pictures, but You will definitely love your 5D.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I have used the Nikon 7000 footage in full HD 1080p then have edited with Adobe Premiere Pro, and had no problem, what could be different?
