something like Form or maybe something better?
quick job – client is pointing to this semi 3D, spinning globe made of dots

what would be the most quick way to do something similar? all i can think of is doing it kind of the long with using cinema 4d. is there something more quick to render that would be more within AE’s 3D system? trapcode form?

Quick solution- find a spherical globe projection file with the shapes of the continents, apply CC Ball Action to it to create the dots texture and then CC Sphere to create the globe. You can find tutorials on how to link CC Sphere to respond to a AE camera if you need that.

I was thinking the same thing. If you get an image of the globe, put it in a 2:1-sized comp and make it dotted (CC Ball Action being an excellent choice for that), you could use CC Sphere and BAM!

Definitely looks like Form, two instances thereof with the second one at double the density (dot frequency) for the outlines.
CC Ball Action plus CC Sphere approach is definitely a good non-plug-in approach with a pretty similar result.

Also worth noting that the end globe is inverted and probably won’t be made up of dots, a simple CC Sphere of the precomped map layer would do that job, and save rendering time of getting something without the hassle of multiplying enough particles to make it look as ‘solid’.
As others have said, looks like Form mainly, but CC Ball Action would do it, then have a second copy of the same globe precomped map for the solid end globe.
