As a new DSLR shooter I’m looking for some opinions/suggestions on what’s a good focal length or lens for shooting a dance recital. The theater is a pretty good size so I’m looking for a little flex when it comes to focal length. My only lens is the Tamron 17-50, and I think it might work if I’m close but I’m not counting on it. Anyway if you have some advice I’d be happy to hear it. Thanks!

Are you shooting the entire recital, or just parts of it? Will you be moving around? On sticks, or handheld? There are a lot of factors that could influence your decision on focal length, and even as DSLR as a format.
