OT: Looking for reference of multiple people reading from the same script
Hi all,
This isn’t an After Effects question, but I thought you all were good folks to ask.
I am looking for some examples of a specific video trope that I feel like I have seen multiple times, but can’t come up with a specific example.The trope is when you get a number of people to read the same script, then cut it together so each person says just one or two words. The impression is that of many people speaking in unity.
Does anyone have some good examples of this technique?
Google hasn’t been much help.

In my area (New England), this has become so much used, especially in PSAs (Public Service Announcements) and retail commercials, that it is a trite visual cliche. Any good examples of this “style” would be outstanding only in their use of location, lighting, and position in the frame. There could be some creative possibilities by using alternating sides of the frame, size of the speakers in the frame, match-frame technigues, etc. It’s been done to death…

Also from New England, and I agree, I feel like I’ve seen it to much. That is why I am somewhat surprised at how hard it is to find specific examples. Our client suggested that technique, feeling that it would make a certain historic speech “appeal to a young audience.” We wanted to have a few examples in front of us. Hard to argue that the technique is overused or trite when you can’t find any examples.

PS. This is for a museum exhibit, and we do have the luxury of surround sound and multiple projection surfaces so its possible we could do something fun with it. Still want some examples to look at.

Hi Matt –
I see you’re out in western New Hampshire – I’m in central NH, not far from Concord. My guess is that to find examples you would need to refine your search in some way. Maybe something such as “commercial multiple speakers”, or something like that. Finding examples without knowing whose commercial it is is going to be tough, since that style isn’t one which is easy to describe without visuals, and I don’t think it’s generally recognized as a style by your average viewer. I’ll mess around with some searches and see if I can find any hits – if I do, I’ll let you know…

We’re in western Massachusetts actually, though anyone who actually recognizes the word “Monadnock” thinks we are in New Hampshire.
Don’t spend too long looking. Its maddeningly hard to search for. Closest I could think of was the Microsoft “I’m a PC” commercials, though that is variations on the same line rather than segments from a larger script.
If anyone knows an example off the top of their head let me know.
