Dust Cloud?
Hey Guys,
I’m trying to replicate a dust-like storm similar to that found in this video starting at 0:12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KVvkhUhhck, but much denser. The swirling, horizontal movement is the goal. Any ideas?

I think just looking for stock footage might do the trick. It doesn’t look complicated at all, it’s literally just passing over the video.

I agree, but I’m having trouble finding stock footage that is just dust, I was thinking some sort of particle system with increased size, horizontal wind, and motion blur, but I can’t get the wavy-like effect or group the particles into clouds.

Well, I did find a lot of videos that are similar, but I’m not sure if the particle system can make the dust look exactly like the video. Maybe a turbulent displace on the video could help for the swirly effect?

Messing around with the turbulent noise effect (or other noise generators) might do what you want.

Could you link me to a few of them? I have been looking for a while but I can’t find anything that fits my description.

That’s what I was thinking. Dynamic progressive with high contrast, VC color vibrance to make it brown, and low opacity. Then to make it move I just move the anchor point of the distortion?

Have you ever used the turbulent noise effect? And even if you haven’t, just mess around with it and you’ll come up with something. 🙂
