  Lightworks Public Beta ready for download

  Just read, that the Open Source Editing Solution “Lightwoks Beta” is ready for download.

  It is said to be fully compatible with AVID and Final Cut Pro und supports AVI, QuickTime, MXF, DPX und RED R3D, DV, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, P2, AVC Intra, DNxHD, ProRes.

  Seems to be an interesting alternative.

  What market is this geared for? Same as Premiere Pro or something else?

  I would think LW targets more in the AVID direction, since it has a professional feature film background (and has now gone Open Source).
  It also seems not to be so “overstuffed” with video effects like Premiere. Will test it on the weekend

  Interesting list of productions, LW was used on:

  But some guys had quite horrible experiences after installation (Windows not starting etc…). So, I guess I maybe will wait until the next version…
  Well, it’s a Beta…
