  Codec/Workflow/Best Quality

  Quickly, this is my workflow.

  I shoot with a t2i. Transfer from card to computer via mpeg streamclip using the Apple Uncompressed 8 bit. Do almost all my post production in AE. Output from AE in Apple Uncompressed 8 Bit. Bring into Final Cut Express(I use Express because I really only use it to string together my nearly complete AE sequences together and add a few audio tracks, etc) When complete, I output a quicktime file, again, using Apple Uncompressed 8 bit.

  My question is this: In FCE, my sequence is always Apple Intermidiate Codec. It obviously is dumbed down, because it plays smoothly while I edit. So, in my workflow, is my final output losing something? Or, is the AIC just a sort of proxy and my final output is absolutely the best I can get?

  Any guidance is truly appreciated.

  Personally I would get FCP and keep it uncompressed all the way through or even go from the H264 camera codec to ProRes and get a great compromise of quality with a near lossless compression. AIC is not a bad codec it is just not the best compression out there. IMO
