Given that Grinder pretty much does what the free Canon plugin does, other than the multi-core support (a potentially large time saver), does anyone know if Grinder can import from the folder structure, rather than the required “Disk image” approach that the Canon plugin requires?

I ask because from an archiving point of view, I find the requirement of making disk image files for every card we shoot, in order to archive them to backup hard drives a real PITA. This takes forever and makes the archive side of the 5D a real time waster, unlike say P2 for instance. If the Grinder app can import from the original folder structure on the card, then the 5D would be as quick to archive as P2… probably faster actually.

If it does, then that alone would make Grinder a must have for everyone with a Canon DSLR

Grinder takes the .MOV files just fine.

    Hey Mitch,

Did you end up buying Grinder? If so, how do you like it? Does it do what you wanted? I just bought a 7D, and I’m thinking about buying it.

    Thanks,

    Jessica
