dslr stills output as one quicktime
I am researching a project shooting stop-motion animation with a DSLR and cutting in Final Cut Pro. I am wondering if there is a way for the DSLR to output still images (JPEGs) strung together into one Quicktime file- an H264 or even Pro Res? Most have told me that the image sequence is made after output of the individual frames from the DSLR in After Effects or FCP. Compressor 7 is also supposed to be able to create an image sequence from stills. Any thoughts?

The only way I know is take all the jpegs in the sequence, download them to a dedicated file, making sure the files are sequentially numbered. Open them with Quicktime pro by clicking on image sequence then the first and last file and they are imported as a movie.

You can open a sequence of consecutively numbered image files in QT Pro and export them as a movie in any codec that you have installed on your Mac. If you have AE, Shake, Combustion, Motion, Nuke or any other pro motion graphics or compositing software, you can import a sequence of consecutively numbered image files and export them as a QT or AVI in whatever codec you have on your computer.

I’d consider After Effects pretty much essential for stop-motion animation work.

QT Pro (old one not the new one in 10.6) is an easy way to just get a single movie. I agree with Noah AE for a plethora of reasons for stop motion work is helpful.
