Upgraded to CC2015 & problems with GPU
Hi to all of you,
I have a question regarding my upgrade:
Finally I moved from AE CS6 to CC 2015 (yes, I stepped into the realm of Cloud, which I never wanted to).
But partially I already regret it, since I stumble many annoying things in Adobe’s cloud world.
One of it:
I am having a Nvidia GeForce 680 – 2GB Graphics Card,
that used to fly on CS6.
Now my previewing and final rendering became a loooooot slower (something that was taking 1min before, is taking now 13min).
When I open the preferences, it recognises my CUDA GPU, but says, that only 400MB out of the 2GB are usable after starting the App.
How come? Is this a bug in CC2015?
It cannot be true, that I can only use not 1/5 of my GPU horsepower.Thanx a lot for any thoughts.

Ae only uses the GPU for the ray-traced renderer. Unless you are using that specific feature, the GPU doesn’t matter.
After Effects is in the middle of a major rearchitecture. For the first time in its 20+ year history, the renderer has been separated from the GUI, so the interface remains responsive while rendering, and so that rendering is not blocked by UI manipulations. The goal is ultimately to make Ae significantly faster on modern hardware, but it’s a lot of work and they’re not entirely there yet.
Things like multiprocessing are not currently implemented in Ae CC 2015, and depending on the nature of your project, that can impact render and preview times.
I am using Ae CC 2015 (13.5+) for my daily work in order to take advantage of the new and improved preview system, but I’m still using Ae CC 2014 (13.2) for renders in order to take advantage of multiprocessing. Ae only changes the project file format on major version numbers, so any 13.x version of Ae can read and write the AEPs, and it’s no problem at all to bounce back and forth between 13.2 and 13.7 all day long.
As a CC subscriber, you are of course eligible to download and install Ae CC 2014 (13.2) alongside your current CC 2015 installation.

Just to be sure: When I do download CC2014, it does not touch my current version of the App, right?Btw, I think it’s a bit lame of Adobe to push out an unfinished CC2015, that is still lacking a lot of things
the previous versions had.
Reminds a bit of the unthoughtful release of FCPX back then!Greetings,

I definitely understand the frustration, and I wish Ae CC 2015 were further along now, but I’m glad to see Adobe investing the engineering resources that After Effects needs to modernize and grow. I also like that they’re trying to make this big under-the-hood changes as seamless as possible for the users with on-going releases, instead of starting over.
