Creating custom variables for CatDV Worker node
Hi there,
When choosing watch actions within the Worker node of CatDV, is it possible to create your own customary style of renaming files?
I know that there are variables called “$U” and “$u” which can generate unique timestamp numbers.
But what if I wanted to create my own numbering system?
For example lets say I had a client called Creative Cow TV
and I wanted to generate filenames that read “CC0001_title_date.mov”
Then the following files would ascend from 0001.A second example for a client called Pine Table Productions I would want to generate a filename such as “PTP0056_title_date.mov”
Is any of this possible?
I would be very grateful for your feedback.

From what I can gather this is not directly possible with the variables and regular expressions at present. It would most likely require some external CL scripting.
I am also looking for something similar in which the Worker can query a field and apply the next number in a sequence. I think this is similar to what you are trying to achieve.

It would be a great feature for referencing individual files with clients etc. -
Generally the rule of the Worker is that it cannot look up from a table as in, look at this value and then pull the next in the sequence. You can have it increment file names I believe but I think that’s only for creating duplicates and you can’t control that. (Need to check that.)
For what you’d like to do you need to first read the existing values from somewhere and apply the next one. I use timestamps or the clipID to create a UID that way I never end up with 2 “2032” numbers in a db but its not perfect for what you want to do.

Being able to apply your own UID system would be great. Definitely a feature request. Even if its just picking the next number from a starting sequence.

Hi Bryson,
How do you normally attach the clip ID to the filename?
I have found that the clip ID stays in the xml data and I cant seem to find a way to include it into the filename by using the server or the worker node.

The field ID for ClipID is “CREF.” So something like
$g-${CREF}$ewould get you the name with the ClipID added to the end but before the file extension. (I havent tested that exact one, that’s only for example, but it should get you rolling.)
