Resolve 16.1.2.026 4K Output Bad Compression
Hi! I have a 2018 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM running 10.15.2. Radeon Pro 560X 4GB RAM. I’m running DaVinci Resolve 16.1.2.026. I have a Canon EOS R camera and am working with 4K video I’ve recorded on it.
As I’m editing, everything looks great. But the output is the problem. If I output standard Vimeo 4K, it looks pretty bad. if I output standard, Vimeo 1080p, it looks great.
Please look at the screenshot in the link. On the left is the 1080p output, which is great. On the right is the 4K output – not so great. What do you think the problem is?

What are your project settings and what are your export settings?

Hi. Just standard, again. In other words, click on Vimeo, then select either 1080 or 4K, changing no other settings. Or click YouTube, then select either 1080 or 4K, changing no other defaults.
This is the first time this has ever been a problem. I’ve recorded other 4K footage that’s fine. For instance, this footage looks fine rendered at 4K.

Here’s the thing about troubleshooting: I ask for information to help you. It might sound like some dumb basic stuff, but it is what I need to do to help. If you don’t give the asked information then there’s pretty much nothing I can do.

I am guessing you are talking about “Vimeo 4K” and “Vimeo 1080” Blackmagic presets?
In order to troubleshoot, you’ll have to look at the specific of these presets for your application.[Peter Menchini] “Please look at the screenshot in the link. On the left is the 1080p output, which is great. On the right is the 4K output – not so great. What do you think the problem is?”
I looked at your screen grab and to me the problem is with your compression settings for the 4K video… but like Tero said, we will need more information from you in order to tell you for sure what we think the problem is.

Yes, it’s DaVinci Resolve’s standard presets for Vimeo 4K or YouTube 4K – the same we all use all the time. I’d be more suspicious of them if I’d changed the defaults, but since I haven’t, I’m curious as to what’s going on.
I’ve never had a problem with them before. Since it’s on some footage but not all, I may need to post in Canon forums too.
