  5D MK III DaVinci Workflow

  Hi all,

  I just finished the edit on a TV documentary in Premiere Pro. I edited the files in their native H.264 format straight off the camera.
  I exported an XML from Premiere and imported it into Resolve 9 Light.
  Now that I am about to render the files back out I am in doubt as to what codec to render out to?

  Final delivery is for broadcast, but I still have some finishing to do in the program. Credits and so forth, minor adjustments.

  Should I render them back out as H.264?

  Obviously, the goal is not to loose any information or quality when redering them back out.

  So far I’ve set the options to:

  Render to: QuickTime
  Codec is: QuickTime H.264
  Set Resolution to: 1920×1080
  Set frame rate: 25
  Set compression quality to: Best

  I haven’t touched any of the other settings.

  h264 master isnt a good idea. i would render out in your favorite editing codec,
  aka prores422hq or aviddnxhd185x. then add your credits titles etc.

  Does it make any difference whether I render out as H.264 and roundtrip back to Premiere and THEN export to DNxHD185 X for my master?

  I tried to render the files out with “QuickTime DNxHD 1080p 220/185/175 10 bits”, but the grade looks different on the exported versions. They have less contrast for some reason and the XML file won’t import into Premiere Pro. “Generic error has occured”.

  Any ideas?

  If you export DNxHD QT from Resolve to Premiere, use “Full Scale” rendering, not Auto or “Normal Scale” (or whatever it’s called). Premiere interprets normally scaled (REC709) DNxHD material so that it raises black levels to 64 and lowers white levels to 940.

  Cant help you much with the XML-issue.. Unless you have Final Cut, you could try if the XML opens there, and export a new XML from Final Cut to Premiere.
