I want to track this sign I remade with Illustrator better on the original sign but at the same time I want to get rid of all of the scum on the window that you can see before it wipes to my attempt at salvaging this shot.

It was stabilized as before it was a VERY shaky shot as you can see how much the window scum is shifting around.

Other than matte painting out the window scum on every frame and tracking the new sign frame-by-frame would anyone have any suggestions as to tackle this effectively and quickly?

    Thanks everyone!

Simple solution- re-shoot. It seems to me that it’s too much work involved for a simple shot like this.
Next level of involvement- keep the scum/dirt on the windshield and just replace the sign – it adds realism to the shot.
The third option is to try and track the dirt on the windshield, create a mask and comp the footage on top of itself offsetting by a few frames and tweak that, but it will still be a lengthy process.

track it with mocha, then run this script.

    1. mocha will sign replace a lot better than AE.

    2. this will create a clean dirt matte that you can us for the alpha matte
to color correct it out. if you can’t stabilize it, try keying out the dirt.
