Project-Consolidating in Resolve
Posted by Eric Sternberger on September 29, 2015 at 9:20 amHi,
I want to edit a 30min show in FCPX. ProRes and AVCHD-Files. I´m planning to do a basic grade in Resolve and then consolidate the whole Project in Resolve to DNxHD, because the final grade and master will be done in another house.
Will this work well, or are there any major obstacles?

October 6, 2015 at 1:00 pmNot dumb at all.
At times the COW tends graze at other posts 😉Yes Ive moved massive projects from FCPX to Resolve then exported AAF to Avid MC.
Now these were Audio Sync clips and not edited footage but it still transferred well.

October 9, 2015 at 2:34 amAre you planning on sending your “basic graded” shots to another house for final grade?
Not ideal.

October 10, 2015 at 4:14 amTest the workflow by prepping 1 minute of material and take it all the way through, and see how it goes. I don’t see an issue per se, but there are always potential problems when handing off a project from one kind of editing software to another. Things change.

I know the workflow is not ideal, but thats how the client wants to do it.
But we will apply the basic grade only for preview, the client gets the ungraded version after that.
I´ll do the test run, good idea. -

October 12, 2015 at 11:02 amI use this workflow fairly often. The only thing to watch out for is how Resolve assigns tape/reel name to your exported DNxHD. I always check off “ASSIST USING REEL NAMES FROM THE”/”SOURCE CLIP FILE NAME” in the conform options window.
