i read some posts here about it. still got confused.
got canon 5 d footage. want to render as DPX for dcpopen for 2.35 or 2.39/2.40 – guess i have to crop, right?

could anyone please tell me the exact way how to achieve that? how do i get a 2.35 or 2.4 crop in the output window? cant find any presets in resolve.

    thanks for your advice!

Assuming v11, blanking presets are covered on page 640-641. The choice of 2.35, 2.39, or 2.40 is a creative choice, but I usually lobby for 2.40.

What type of DCP are you planning on making? Are you making an Interop DCP or a SMPTE DCP?

Interop DCP are 1.89:1 in either 2K 2048×1080 or 4K 4096×2160, the official name by the DCI is Full Container. In this case you would mask your image in Resolve before OpenDCP.

SMPTE DCP can be more aspect ratios. But the details of an SMPTE DCP 2.39:1 in either 2K Scope 2048×858 or 4K Scope 4096×1716, the official name by the DCI is Scope. In this case you would crop and enlarge your image in Resolve before OpenDCP.

I would use the easyDCP demo version installed in Resolve (all DCPs are watermarked) to demo this. You’ll find the aspect ratio for the Resolve project and easyDCP export will list the preset with “DCI” or “DCI Scope” etc.

    I hope this helps?

    Cheers,
    Robert

    hey there,

thanks for your help. could not imagine, it’s so much easier than i thought.

    PROJECT SETTING: 2 K DCI scope 2.39
COLOR: grade and reframe (tilt) 1920×1080 footage within the 2.39 frame
DELIVER PAGE: set resolution for the DPX to 2K dci scope 2.39

–> dcpOpen creates a 2.39 full frame dcP

    cheers – martin

Watch out for the scaling options. And don’t forget to remove any letterbox blanking, and be sure to check in cases where shots were reframed. What works for me (thanks to Kevin Cannon of Prehistoric Digital) is to use a 2048×1152 timeline with 1920×1080 media, then output to 2048×858 in crop mode. 2.39 scope for DCP ingest comes out just fine that way.
