  • VERY slow project opening on new Mac Pro…

    Hey Folks,

Having weird issues on new Mac Pro’s. Running:

Resolve 10.1.5 Lite (will be changed to full version soon)
    new Mac Pro 12-core, 64GB 10.9.2, Dual D700 GPU
    Stornext SAN v4.5
    Promise SAN Link2 8GB FC

The resolve session has about 2000 clips of BRoll footage that are being rendered to ProRes. Camera source is Canon XF100 MXF mpeg-2. On the Mac Can the session takes about 10min to open. On a 2009 MP dual 4-core 2.26, 6GB RAM and only a GT120 (only) running 10.8.5 the session opens in about 2min. They are both on the same Stornext SAN.

The Mac Can is also error’ing out on renders randomly. Is anyone else having a buggy experience on the new Mac Cans? It’s “feeling” like a Mavericks thing.

    thanks,

    Jonathon

My first guess would be something with the SAN and OS version?

Yeah, it’s strange. I’m getting 800mb/sec r/w. Once it starts playing stereo 2K is realtime. It’s just the load in of the project. Transcoding goes at 100fps+ for Canon XF100 footage also. It seems to be just Resolve opening projects.

Anyone else here using Resolve + mac can + Stornext w/Quantum MDC’s?

Are you using Disk DB or Postgres? Make sure the DB is setup on the internal SSD for best performance.

    2000 clips? Yikes!

Is there a way you can chop the project down into separate reels? Do that and keep the reels under 30 minutes, maybe 500-600 clips each, and those will open fine. At the end, you could always cut and paste the timelines and create one master timeline with everything in it for the final output render.

I get very nervous with massive “super session” projects with hours of footage and thousands of cuts. It’s technically supposed to work, but the truth is it stresses out the whole system. And that’s also true for VFX and sound-related software as well.

I wonder if all the 2000 clips is actually used?

After red trim emerged it seems no reason to tidy up jobs.

Ok you need some other app for your format but still.

It is good idea to have nice and tidy jobs.

I have worked with feature with 3 tb material in it but
it had similar opening and closing timespan so to say.

At that time it did not bother me but now i see no reason to go this way.
