Has anyone experienced or heard of slow Red Rocket transcoding from certain RAID storage? I am involved with a client who uses Resolve Linux and Red Rocket cards, and it is very slow only from one particular RAID system. But from that same RAID, ordinary .dpx sequences or .mov files are very fast, > 1 TB/sec via dual-port 8-Gbit HBA. Other types of RAID volumes in the SAN are immune from this problem. What is it about the R3D transcoding I/O pattern that is sensitive to a particular RAID?

Make sure buffering is turned on for small I/O requests. The Red SDK manages the I/O to the filesystem and typically the I/O per frame is fairly small.

To rule out a decode performance issue, you can switch off the rocket and set the decode to 1/16th.

    Thanks, Rohit.

When you say turn on buffering for small I/O requests, you refer to a RAID setting, not Resolve?

The RAID has a”random reads” setting enabled, but not “random writes”. During this processing, what kind of writes to the storage are active?
