Audio clicking with Alexa footage
Using Resolve Lite to transcode some Alexa 444 footage on a Mac system.
When the media is loaded into the media pool and played there is severe clicking and popping. When the clip is listened to in QT, it is fine. If the audio is extracted from the clip in Resolve it is fine. The clicking is still present after the transcode. Basically not usable. Are there any settings I should be looking for within Resolve to remedy this?

This sounds like a frame rate issue. Check the clip rate and set the timeline to that rate prior to placing the clip in the media pool.

Hi Peter,
We double checked that. The frame rate of the clip matches the project.
We tried also on a different system with full license.
Any other ideas?

Can u confirm its 48KHz sample rate as that’s the rate supported by Resolve?

Yes, the audio sample rate is 48k.
These same clips AMA link into Avid MC and play without issues. Both inspection of the clips with Quicktime and in Avid show nothing out of the ordinary.
We had this same issue with the first version of Resolve which could handle source clip audio as well. But only Arri Alexa footage.
I can provide one for testing if it would be of help.

Doing some more testing. I found some other Alexa footage that does NOT have the clicking problem. Here is the difference.
Bad audio – Dual mono audio tracks.
Good audio – Stereo audio tracks.
Both are 24-bit Integer (Little Endian)
Hope that helps. Don’t know why the camera was set differently.

Ok, turns out my client was giving me bad info. This footage was shot with a Sony F3. The files are ProRes 444. Since that is not a native recording format of that camera, I must guess that a Sound Design Pix240 was used as they now can record ProRes 444 files. Of course the details of this are way beyond the client and I can not push to far.
This introduces another possible problem area. Ain’t this fun?
