  • How do I get F55 MXFs into DaVinci Resolve?

Posted by Brenna Perez on May 12, 2013 at 11:16 pm

    Hi all,

I have a drive with 2 cards of media shot on the F55. There was no “DIT” on set, just someone dragging and dropping files.

It looks like for each card, the folders go A001>XDROOT>Clip>***** where the MXFs are.

I thought I could simply bring these into DaVinci normally, dragging the folders into the Media Pool, but they aren’t showing up.

Is there a way to do this, or do I have to convert everything first to bring it into Resolve/FCP 7? If I have to convert, what is the ideal program?

Any free alternatives to Sony Content viewer?

Do you have the latest version of DaVinci installed?

When I did a test with F55 footage, both the RAW and XAVC worked fine in DaVinci.

Copy all the files with the same file and folder structure to the raid that you have on Resolve. The files will then appear in the Resolve library so I can add to the media pool.

I thunk Resolve 9.1 or later on Mac is required.

    One more note:

F55 shoots two formats to SxS card at moment…that’s MPEG and XAVC

If you are trying to bring MPEG shots into Resolve, I don’t think that’s going to work until they are re-wrapped by FCPX. XAVC .mxfs should be good to go.

mpeg2 mxf (aka XDCAM) works in Resolve as well.

I’m using the same file format – footage shot on an F5, with clips of both XDCAM and XAVC, and either 25fps or 50fps.

The clips show up when I bring them into DaVinci, but I can’t work out how to convert them to ProRes and retain the audio. It either plays back with the audio completely out of sync, or the audio isn’t there at all.
Plus, when rendering out, it only gives an option for 24fps – can this work when the footage was filmed at 25fps and 50fps?

Ideally I want to end up with ProRes 422, 25fps footage. Also, some of it is supposed to be slow mo, but i have no idea how to get that the right speed/render/output format…

Any ideas would be so amazing!!
    Thank you
