Can someone run down the proper project and clip settings for Sony RAW footage in resolve?

I’m currently learning resolve and testing workflow with F55 footage and the footage looks good, but the it comes up looking like Rec709 (even in ACES) with no LUT applied in resolve. In Sony’s RAW VIEWER, I can change the ‘Input Settings’ and ‘Viewer Settings’ to see a huge difference – basically I am expecting to see a milky image in resolve and am seeing essentially what I saw on set.

I’ve done some time in Resolve, but I am by no means a pro…so it’s possible I’m missing something simple here. I have spent quite a bit of time googling and reading without finding anything.

FYI, I am using Lite, incase this might be some kind of limitation there.

In Resolve’s ‘Camera Raw’ dialog, the color space and gamma are greyed out (image attached) – this is where I would assume you would make these kinds of changes?

    any help greatly appreciated.

    thanks!!

You need to change the “Use project settings” to get into the options

    thanks for the quick response!
the “Use Project Settings” in that Camera Raw dialog, seems to only apply to ‘Decode Quality’. Changing that, doesn’t seem to un-grey out any other options.

    Change “Decode Using” to Clip.

    but

I think the Sony RAW feature only works for the F65 at the moment. could be wrong. I had a F55 here last week, but we never got the raw recorder to work and Sony needed the unit back.

RAW decoder works. But not everything. Your best choice is to debayer in Sony RAW Viewer for right now.

when using sony’s Raw Viewer to debayer, are you exporting to OpenEXR?

    Input Settings are you using?
    S-Gamut/Linear
    S-Gamus/S-Log2
    ACES

I assume the Viewer Settings aren’t burned into the exports…but if not…same question there.

    thanks!!

    I’d recommend doing DPX, S-Gamut, Slog 2.

In ACES the RRT is applied, so you’re not going to get that flat image you saw while shooting. Assuming the MLUT was turned off in-camera while shooting raw.

If you want to grade from a Slog2/SGamut (flat) image, turn off ACES, and then enable those two settings either via project or clip basis in the raw settings.

I’ve done this with F55 raw quite a bit over last couple weeks. The options are there.
