  • AVID AAF round trip …. shared database???

    Here is my setup:

Media and projects are shared over a Facilis fibre multivolume system between multiple workstations.

Online editor provides AVID bin with sequence to be graded.

I open that in AVID and then export AAF.

Take AAF into DaVinci grading station and grade.

Then export DaVinci project from grading station (all sharing same media over network).

Import DaVinci project into Render station and render. Export AAF from render station….

Back up…..extra step which as as far as I can see is undocumented. DaVinci seems to create its own AAF file in LIBRARY / APPLICATION SUPPORT / BLACKMAGIC every time an AAF is imported. This file needs to be manually copied on finder level from GRADING station to RENDER station DAVINCI for the round trip to work. 🙁

Question – if I set up a shared database between my grading station and render station, will I still need to do this annoying extra step?

    Thx

I never knew or used that aaf file your talking about. What I do after render is rightclick timeline in conformpage and export aaf. Any changes you might have made will now be in the new aaf as well.
