Speed up Arri Raw transcoding
Hey Guys,
So I’ve been transcoding a ton of Epic and Arri Raw footage from a shoot (Over 1.5TB a day) to DNxHD36 MXF’s for the Offline Edit, We rented a pair of Red Rockets so transcoding the red footage is a breeze.
My question is, what is there to speed up the transcoding of ArriRaw files? I’m currently getting about 4-5fps on a brand new, 12 core 64gb mac pro, with two 5770’s. I know DaVinci will utilize a GFX when transcoding footage that has been colored, but what about just transcoding raw footage with a Rec709 LUT applied to it? How beneficial would it be to throw a GTX690 is the machine?
Also, quick question that I’ve always wondered. The GPU bar at the top, when its completely black, does that mean your card is being fully utilized or not utilized at all? Logic told me that it meant it wasn’t being used at all, but then I saw a post somewhere that explained it as the opposite.
Thanks guys!
