Slot config with Decklink+RedRocket+Quadro4000+GeForce680
Hi folks, I’d like to add a 2nd GPU to my Mac Pro, in exchange for my HBA. I have 4x 4TB drives raided together with the internal drives and I’m getting 575MB/s which should be plenty for my needs so I think I can forgo my HBA and external storage (My boot drive is a separate SSD)
However the configuration guide doesn’t have a guide about the slot configuration for this config. Here’s the cards I want to get in there:
Quadro 4000 (for GUI)
Geforce 680 (for GPU processing)
RedRocket (for RED)
Decklink Extreme 3D (for SDI i/o)What should I use?

Starting from the bottom double height slot:
680
Q4000
Rocket
DecklinkHope that makes sense. Make sure you have additional power for your 680, the MacPro’s built in power is not sufficient.

What about heat ? Always thought in a macpro things are so close and the cards being vertical stacked and heat rises etc…Ever had heat issues? like fans blowing hot air off gfx card up onto card above.

if you’re getting speeds like that for your internal RAID, i assume you’re running a RAID-0. just make sure you’re backing it up somewhere as one drive failure means you lose all the data on the RAID.

Have not had heat issues to speak of, but I do keep my machines in a well ventilated machine room. I suppose it’s a bit of a “what will be, will be” situation as there aren’t a ton of choices in terms of card configs. For what it’s worth the 680 is quite heat/power efficient, at least compared to the 580/570.
