  Masks no longer working after shifting channels.

  Whenever I try to mask a certain piece of footage, the mask never works.

  To begin, I wanted to separate a piece of stock footage from a white background. I first inverted it and then went to Effects -> Shift Channels -> and changed the “Take Alpha from” option from “Alpha” to “Luminance”. I then went to Effects and selected “Remove Color Matting”. Lastly I inverted the footage once again and now when I try to put in a mask the mask never works. It’s either messed up and uneven or just doesn’t work at all. Can anyone give me some tips to fix this issue?

  Create a solid layer above this, put the mask there and use the solid layer with the mask as a track matte.
