    Hey all,

I’ve just recently switched over to Resolve from Color and am looking for advice on blooming the highlights. I have a shot where I’d like to blow out the windows a good bit – large windows filling most of the background.

This is what I’ve done so far:

    – pulled a key on the windows in a layer node
    – blurred that
    – applied layer with “add” or “screen” blend mode

It works a bit, but I’m not really getting any real dispersion like you would with some diffusion or something. The soft clip isn’t giving me much either. I’d like to get something streaky going, but I’m new to this app.

    Any advice?
    Thanks,

    JIm W.

Well, I think I pulled it off ok using another method.

Here’s what I ended up doing:

    – pulled a key on the windows
    – blurred the qualifier
    – shrunk it for some light wrap
    – applied blur to the selection
    – then I pumped the gain
    – adjusted the soft clip a bit

Seemed to work, but I’d love to know a tried and true method – usually I go the long way around : )
